MIKONO is Swahili for HANDS. We see the handmade pieces that we bring to you as the artisans' means of transmitting their 'essence' in the form of their love for each and every one of their creations. Based in Nairobi, MIKONO is anchored on using craftsmanship and artistry to better our communities in Kenya but with an eye on the rest of the Africa in the near future.
We have identified projects that fit right into our ethos and together we seek to develop local and global markets for our partners. With a keen eye on creativity and quality, we have identified different groups and projects that focus on environmental conservation through recycling, women's empowerment in both urban and rural areas and job creation through constant and sustained training. MIKONO has identified 4 industries (though not limited to) i.e., leather craftsmanship, beadwork, pottery and weaving/knitting, that we would like to harness and develop talent and skills of aspiring artisans whilst providing a safe working environment, and creating sustainable jobs that fairly compensate and empowering communities through production of unique and highly coveted handmade products.
We are excited that through our partnership with MarketPlace AFRICA and DHL Express, we can now get our products to our customers anywhere in the world efficiently and affordably.
